Michael Jackson Music Booms
Sales of Michael Jackson’s CD’s and DVD’s continue to rise after the pop star’s death. Trans World Entertainment Corporation has set up Michael Jackson displays at nearly all of its 700 stores. In an effort to fulfill the current consumer frenzy over Jackson memorabilia, many retailers have decided to re-promote the “King of Pop.” The question for retailers now, is how to keep up with the ever-growing market and stay ahead of the stocked product curve.
The numbers are impressive. According to Nielsen SoundScan the sales of Michael Jackson solo albums jumped to 422,000 during the last week of June, compared to 10,000 copies sold the prior week.
Trans World, Best Buy, Borders, and Target have about 60 percent of all United States album sales. With the high numbers reported by Trans World, it’s anybody’s guess as to the actual sales of Michael Jackson’s CD’s and DVD’s for this second half of 2009. If on track with the Elvis trend, Michael Jackson album sales in death could very well surpass the record sales made during his life.
